Unhiddenness 19th May - 6th June 10

This exhibition showcases the most memorable works by Surat Osathanugrah, which focus on scene and people of Thailand. Beside being a historical record of old Bangkok, it is also a piece of art which Surat has beautifully framed each scene to capture these moments in the daily lives of people.

(Con)Front 12th Jun 2010 - 03th July 2010
Like glimpses into a visual diary, (Con)Front is an attempt to tackle both the conscious and the unconscious. These visual dialogues pin down the artist response to his environment and his relentless search for a sense of place and identity. Provocative and disquieting, minimal yet profound, the exhibition examines the deconstruction of memory and time, the human desire to project towards the future, but what comes out of the future is the past.

HanoiHaiku
19 June - 05 July
By Sherman Ong

Shown as a complete series for the first time in Singapore, these works were made in Hanoi, Vietnam during my residency with the Goethe Institut Hanoi. Presented like a visual Haiku, the works are intentionally left untitled; the juxtaposition of images produces their own narratives, temporal connections, and is open to many interpretations infused with the personal experiences of individual viewers.

Sharpening Your Personal Vision
Intensive weekend photojournalism workshop
20 – 21 June (Saturday & Sunday), 9am - 5pm
Cost: $450 per person (cost inclusive of 2 meals and tea break) Limited to 10 participants.

Prerequisite: Basic photography skills and understanding of photojournalism
This is an intensive 2 days photojournalism workshop for those who have acquired basic photography skills and wish to sharpen their approach to subjects. Participants will learn how to observe, way of approach, style of shooting and composition. There will be lecture, outdoor shoot and critique of all the photographers’ works at the end of each day.

Instructor: Mathias Heng
Mathias Heng grew up in Singapore. While studying Graphics Reproduction he found that photographs with issues of humanity had a powerful effect on him, so he decided to become a photographer. He was based in Australia and now resides in Singapore, spending much of his time travelling to places of war, disaster, poverty and human struggle. Mathias has photographed several conflicts and their effects on the civilian population, producing a body of emotionally moving documentary work that captures key moments and turning points in history. He has created photographic essays in Australia, Afghanistan, Burma, China, Thailand, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, South Africa, Mozambique, East Timor, Papua New Guinea, Kiribati, Iraq and Indonesia on the aftermath on Tsunami.

Mathias Heng’s work appears in The Washington Post, The Guardian, The Australian, The Age and newspapers throughout Asia and Europe. His images appear in books and magazines worldwide, as well as non-government organization magazines such as Oxfam USA and Australia, CARE International, Caritas Australia, Australian Volunteers International, AusAID and International Labor Organization (UN).

In 2000, Mathias was featured alongside other internationally renowned photojournalist such as Sebastiao Salgado in Leica’s product brochure, The Program. In 2002, Mathias published his first book, sponsored by Leica, ‘Viva Timor Loro S’ae, Long Live East Timor 1999 – 2002.’ In spite of his exposure to many atrocities, Heng has never lost his passion and commitment to humanity, or his ability to capture images which speak to people around the globe.

Planning Your Own Exhibition
This course covers logistic planning and budgeting for a photography exhibition in both private and public space. Participants will learn the essential steps for exhibition and how to edit and curate the works for the wall.
